Solan is district headquarter and largest Municipal Council Himachal Pradesh, in year 1972 this Solan was declared as the headquarter of district. Solan is located 46 kilometres (29 mi) south of the Shimla at an average elevation of 1,600 metres (5,200 ft). Solan, thi named after the Hindu goddess Shoolini devi. Every year in the month of June, a fair celebrating the goddess is held, featuring a 3-day mela at the central Thodo grounds. Before independence the Solan was capital of the erstwhile princely state, Bhagat .

Why Visit Solan?

The history of Solan associated with the Pandavas of Mahabharat Era. According to the famous local folklore, the Pandavas with Mata Kunti and wife Dropadi lived for some time here during their exile. In the year of 1815 British won Baghal state (now Solan) from the rulers of that time i.e Gurkhas, The Gurkha fort or Arki Fort is still standing tall on a mountain near to Solan city and it is one of the historic tourist attractions of Solan where everyday so many tourist come to visit, The word Baghat i.e actually the previous name of a princely state is derived from 'Bau' or 'Bahu', meaning "many", and 'Ghat' meaning "pass" becasue here so many ways was connected it with the other cities. Initially the state headquarters of the Baghat State was located at Bhoch in the Bhuchali pargana, but the headquarters of the state was shifted to Solan after the construction of cantonment over here. Kalka-Shimla rail line joined this city in year 1902.Temperatures typically range from −2 °C (28 °F) to 32°C (90 °F) over the course of a year.

How to Reach Solan

Solan is a city that is located 50 km to the south of the Shimla, 35 km away from Chandigarh Airport and 115 km away Bhuntar Airport of Kullu, Solan is only 300 Km north side from Delhi via road it is on NH 44, city is also connected by train from various major cities of India. The city having railway station and bus stop, while nearest airport is Chandigarh or kullu.

Solan in Summer (March - July)

Summers are the ideal time to visit this place because this is chilled cool place. The weather remains pleasant. The temperature remains comfortable, between 15 to 30 degrees Celsius and all outdoor activities can be enjoyed to the fullest.

Solan in Monsoon (September - November)

Monsoons also make for a good time to visit the place. However, erratic rainfalls and storms can ruin the trip.

Solan in Winter (December - February)

Woolen clothes are a must for this season. Winters can be biting cold with the temperature ranging between 0 to 20 degrees Celsius. It is characterized by dense fog and not the ideal time to visit Solan.
