Chamba is district headquarter and largest Municipal Council Himachal Pradesh, in year 1948 this princely state Chamba was merged in India. Chamba is located 361 kilometres (224 mi) north west of the Shimla at an average elevation of 1,006 metres (3,301 ft). Chamba, this named after the daughter of Raja Sahil Verma's Champavati. They shifted their capital to this place in year 1920, this town hosts two very popular fairs called Suhi Mata Mela and Minjar Mela these festivals are of several days full of joy, dance and music .

The history of Chamba associated with the Kolian tribes from 2nd century after that khasas and Audumbaras tribes came in power, till that time this land was not developed, but when Guptas came to this land and invaded these tribes and ruled this area, from 7th century Gurjara Pratiharas or the Rajput dynasty came into power, they built various temples, bridges and other historical monuments including buildings, The temperatures in summer vary between 38 °C (100 °F) and 15 °C (59 °F) and in winter: 15 °C (59 °F) and 0 °C (32 °F).The maximum temperature recorded in summer is 39 °C (102 °F) and the minimum temperature in winter is −1 °C (30 °F). Climatically March to June is said to be the best period to visit Chamba, which is a well known hill station. The average annual rainfall in the town is 785.84 millimetres (30.939 in).

How to Reach Chamba

Chamba is a city that is located 363 km to the north west of the Shimla, 121 km away from Pathankot in North East direction and 312 km away Bhuntar Airport of Kullu, Chamba is only 600 Km north side from Delhi via road it is on NH 44, city is also connected by train from various major cities of India. The city having railway station and bus stop, while nearest airport is Chandigarh or kullu.

Chamba in Summer (March - July)

Summers are the ideal time to visit this place because this is chilled cool place. The weather remains pleasant. The temperature remains comfortable, between 15 to 38 degrees Celsius and all outdoor activities can be enjoyed to the fullest.

Chamba in Monsoon (September - November)

Monsoons also make for a good time to visit the place. However, erratic rainfalls and storms can ruin the trip.

Chamba in Winter (December - February)

Woolen clothes are a must for this season. Winters can be biting cold with the temperature ranging between 0 to 15 degrees Celsius. It is characterized by dense fog and not the ideal time to visit Chamba.
